Luxury taxi owners have decided to withdraw their fleet from rendering services to the West Bengal government officials from tomorrow.
The Joint Council of Luxury Taxi Association (WB), which has a fleet of 30,000 luxury taxis under its fold, said that it was becoming extremely unviable for them as the daily payment made to them by the Government was very poor in view of the rising costs of articles.
General Secretary of the association, Subrata Ghosh, told newspersons last night that there had been no revision in the daily payment of Rs 465 for the last five years although price of everything had risen.
“Under these circumstances, we are forced to withdraw services to the government from September 27,” he said.
He said that unless the government raised the amount to higher levels, they would be forced to quit the vocation.
The luxury taxis are hired by the state government departments for ferrying their officials from home to office and back and for other jobs.
