Six-time Congress MLA and former President of the Congress’ West Bengal unit, Manas Bhunia, on Monday jumped ship to the Trinamool Congress.
The relationship between Bhunia and his party colleagues that include Congress State unit president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Leader of Opposition Abdul Mannan, has been going downhill for quite sometime.
His two-month long tussle with the State leadership over the post of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman only worsened relations.
“The Congress, with which I was associated with for 46 years, is completely ruined. From today, I am a loyal soldier of the Trinamool Congress and will abide by the orders and decisions of Mamata Banerjee,” he said after switching camps.
Later, Bhunia left to meet TMC supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the State secretariat.
He also refused to give a direct reply whether he would quit his MLA post and fight a by-election on a TMC ticket.
