Sheela Foam, the makers of the Sleepwell mattresses brand, has applied for a patent for its ‘Perfect Match’ concept, which aims to provide personalised sleep experience.

The ₹1,750-crore-turnover entity has developed knowhow to customise mattresses depending on body types and individual needs. Its ‘Senso bed’ uses IT to map customers’ requirements and helps the company design the Perfect Match mattress, said Rakesh Chahar, CEO & Director (Sales & Marketing).

The Shahibabad, Uttar Pradesh-headquartered company had come up with the ‘My Mattress’ concept in 2015 claiming to provide complete sleep solution. Through ‘Perfect Match’, it intends to take the comfort levels to a new plane. “It’s not a prescription, but a recommendation to customers to meet their needs,” Chahar said.

Market size

He was in Hyderabad to launch the company’s latest offering — Comfort Cell mattresses. He told BusinessLine that at present, 70 per cent of the domestic market of about ₹10,000 crore is in the unorganised sector.

On GST, he said the industry has been disappointed with the levy of 28 per cent slab. Industryassociations have represented to the government and hope something positive will emerge for parity between the organised and unorganised sectors.

Sheela Foam, was the first mattress company to go for an IPO, post demonetisation in 2016. It has 12 manufacturing units, over 100 distributors, 800 franchisee showrooms across the country.

It has about 35 per cent of the market share of the Indian poly urethene foam industry. Its foam is also used in industries such as automobiles, shoes, garments, packaging etc, which constitute about 30 per cent of the company revenues at present.

Started in 1971, the Sheela group is focussed on mattresses.
