Smoking, alcoholism, late marriages and multiple sexual relationships are taking a toll on Indian couples as one in six couples are found to be infertile. According to Medicover, a European healthcare service provider, at least one in six couples are found to be infertile.
"Our survey found that the problem in Hyderabad is more severe with one in every five couples facing the infertility problem," Gaurav Malhotra, Managing Director of Medicover Fertility India, has said.
The firm, which opened its 15th fertility clinics centre here on Tuesday, says there are an estimated three crore couples in the country that would require fertility treatment. "But only 2.5 lakh couples could access treatment," he said.
The firm lined up investments to the tune of $100 million in the country to open 60-65 fertility clinics in the next two years.
"Access to quality treatment is a major challenge. In order to address this challenge, we have tied up with Bajaj Finance. We are going to offer an EMI option with zero interest and no down payment," he said.
Each of the average three cycles required for treatment costs about ₹1.5 lakh.
"We have launched Medicover Fertility in July 2016 in India and we already have grown to 15 fertility clinics across 10 cities in India. With a view to attending to complaints, we have set up an Independent International Ethical Board in Telangana,” he said.
The Hyderabad facility is located near the Hi-Tec City. The firm has operations in 14 countries.
