The role of technology in HR (human resources) and other related issues were discussed in the three-day annual HR conclave – Disha – at TA Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) in Manipal from August 29 to 31.

Speaking on the changing face of HR, Suehlan Yu, vice-president (HR) of Accenture Service Pvt Ltd, said HR worked in a silo previously. However, the lines between the different departments are getting blurred.

Stating that technology can streamline the process, he said the use of technology could make the process of talent acquisition unbiased.

Jiten Chanana, Group Manager (HR) of WNS Global Services, said there was a skill gap between the requirements of the industry and the training of the new graduates. As technology is changing rapidly, the skill-sets of employees should also improve, he said.

Emphasising the need to engage with employees, Sumit Mukherjee, Associate VP (HR) at Apollo Munich Health Insurance, said engagement strategy is all about getting people involved in decision-making of the organisation.

Madhu Veeraraghavan, Director of TAPMI, said events such as Disha provide a platform for students to interact with industry professionals and gain insights. When teams work together, there is a lot more innovation than a lone inventor, and that should be the focus of HR in the coming years, he said.

A press release said here on Friday that the three-day conclave was packed with panel discussions, guest lectures and seminars on various topics.
