Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the country’s banking sector was on a ‘ventilator’ in 2014 because of the UPA government that was in power till then.

Addressing an election rally in Mangaluru on Saturday, he said that the amount of loan extended by the Indian banking system during 2006-2014 was more than double that of the loans extended since independence to 2006.

The ‘naamdaars’ of Congress used ‘phone banking’ to ruin the banking sector to the extent that it was on a ventilator by then, he said.Those responsible for the condition are running for safety after his government started probing the poor condition of the banking sector.

Stating that it is not easy to run away, he said all those responsible for this will be brought to books. Already three such people are in jail. Other responsible people will also be brought to books, he said.

Highlighting the PM Kisan Yojana of the Centre, he said many in Karnataka are waiting to get the benefits of this scheme. The Karnataka government is not ready to send the list of those eligible for this scheme denying them a chance to get the benefits, he said.

The NDA government is also focusing on the welfare of fishermen in the country. He said the Modi government will create a separate ministry for fisheries after the results are over on May 23.

He said the opposition parties need proof of surgical strike on enemies. He wondered if there is a need for proof when the entire country believes in the valour of the armed forces of the country.
