The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Congress party is stalling the Triple Talaq Bill aimed at empowering Muslim women.

Addressing an election rally in Mangaluru on Saturday evening, he said Congress has stalled the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill in the Rajya Sabha as it has the majority there. The Congress is protecting its vote bank by doing so. This action is anti-women and an insult to women, he said.

The former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi had the opportunity to bail out Muslim women from triple Talaq. However, he did not do that because of the vote bank politics.

Stating that Congress does not have any other agenda than opposing whatever he does, he said Congress is critical of him of whether he is in the country or when he travels abroad.

Giving the example of him creating awareness on ‘Swachch Bharat’ in the country, he said Congress made fun of the ‘Swachch Bharat’ and opposed it also. He asked the gathering whether the sisters and mothers in the country need facilities such as toilets in their homes, the crowd responded positively. Then he replied to the crowd that the Congress made fun of this initiative.

He said that Congress always thinks about one family. However, he (Modi) thinks about 125 crore Indians who, he said, are his family.

Terming this nepotism of Congress as the biggest threat to democratic fabric of the country, he said this has been reflected in the manner which it treated leaders such as Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Subash Chandra Bose, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Rajagopalachari.

In Karnataka, it treated leaders such as Devaraj Urs, Veerendra Patil and S Nijalingappa in the same way.

The former Congress Chief Minister late Devarj Urs had opposed the family rule within the party. Following this, the party ensured that he did not get elected afterwards. Had Urs was not there Indira Gandhi would not have won the Parliamentary election from Chikmagaluru constituency.

Congress even removed the government headed by Veerendra Patil by imposing the President’s rule. Even former Chief Minister S Nijalingappa was sidelined. They were targeted for questioning the family rule, he said.
