Telangana is all set to have a new Secretariat. The multi-storeyed swanky building will come up at a cost of ₹350 crore.

After its attempts to build a new Secretariat at the Chest Hospital and later near the Gymkhana Grounds in Secunderabad evoked criticism, the government seems to have settled for the existing location to build a new Secretariat.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Raowhen he met ESL Narasimhan, who is the common Governor forAndhra Pradesh and Telangana, reportedly asked him to consider giving the buildings that housed the AP departments and ministries to Telangana. The Andhra Pradesh government had shifted all its Secretarial offices to Velagapudi (at the new capital Amaravati) last week.

The Telangana government had planned to build an integrated complex at Sanathnagar to house the Secretariat and the Assembly by shifting the Chest Hospital to a place near Vikarabad. But, the move came in for sharp criticism, forcing the government to look at other options. It considered the 60-acre Bison Polo ground, owned by the Defence Ministry, in Secunderabad.

The Chief Minister had met the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in Delhi about a year ago and requested him to give the land and promised him to compensate with a chunk of land at another location.

With things not going in its way, the State government has decided to construct a new Secretariat at the existing location, by dismantling some structures.
