The Tamil film industry has decided it will not release new movies from October 6 till the State government calls off the 10 per cent local tax. The Tamil Film Producers Council has decided to cancel all new releases till the local body tax is recalled by the State government, said the Council in a press statement today. The Tamil Nadu government levied a 10 per cent entertainment tax on Tamil movies and 20 per cent on other language movies over and above the Goods and Services Tax, which was effective from September 27, 2017. The move was heavily criticised by the film fraternity.
