A 396.8 kWp rooftop solar power plant has been installed at the Ocean Research Institute in Hyderabad to meet some of its energy needs.
The plant was installed by CleanMax Solar on the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) campus. The company will manage operations and maintenance of the plant for 25 years.
The plant was formally inaugurated today by the Secretary, Union Ministry of Earth Sciences, M Rajeevan.
The rooftop solar plant has been set up across the rooftops of the institute’s admin building, guest house, multipurpose hall, substation and parking buildings. It is expected to reduce carbon dioxide production by approximately 507 tonnes annually, according to a press release.
The solar tariff being 33.5 per cent cheaper than grid tariffs, the approximate saving per year will be ₹14.72 lakh to the Institute. The OPEX model of the unit has garnered popularity in India because of the ‘pay as you go’ model, the release added.

Incois provides ocean information and advisory services to government, industry, scientists and society through observations and research.
CleanMax Solar, an on-site solar power provider, has installed more than 200 projects for over 50 corporates, with a combined on-site capacity of more than 100 MW. It claims to be India’s top rooftop solar developer in the past three years.
The company has built Karnataka’s first open access solar farm, of 30 MW capacity, in the Tumkur district.
