Twitter went berserk on the day the Supreme Court sealed Tamil Nadu’s political fate by convicting VK Sasikala, General Secretary of the ruling AIADMK party and contender for post of Chief Minister, in the disproportionate assets case. The social media platform was flooded with reactions from senior political leaders, actors and the public.

#DACase, #TNSaved and #SasikalaConvicted were the trending hashtags on tTwitter. MK Stalin, Working President and Treasurer of the DMK, tweeted from his official handle that justice had prevailed and that the conviction sets an example to anyone who strays from path of honesty. He further stated that the Governor should take immediate steps to stabilise the government.

Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, tweeted: “Need of the hour is to enable an able and stable government in Tamil Nadu as per the wishes of the people of State.”

“Corrupted were punished and good times ahead for Tamil Nadu (sic),” tweeted Tamilisai Soundarajan, Tamil Nadu BJP chief.

VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan called for a new election in Tamil Nadu, as he had doubts about current party’s capability to run the State. S Ramadoss, Founder, Pattali Makkal Katchi, attacked AIADMK party cadres for celebrating the verdict as it meant former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was guilty as well.

Subramanian Swamy, Rajya Sabha member and member BJP National Executive, who initiated the case nearly two decades back tweeted: “After 20 years I won.”

To Khushbu Sundar, National Spokesperson, Indian National Congress it was “The best valentine gift to the people of TN by the SC. People can breathe normally and live without any fear.”

AIADMK’s official twitter handle stood by Sasikala with Tweets like ‘Amma’s purity was dirtied by party traitors’ and ‘Whenever Amma suffered, Sasikala took on the burden, even now she is doing the same”.

Actor Kamal Haasan was one the first to appreciate through his cryptic and poetic tweet that said dharma will always win in the end.

Reactions on Facebook ranged from relief to pure ecstasy and disgust that Sasikala would still want to hold on to the post of party leader, when she expelled Panneerselvam from the party.
