Beginning today, parts of Hyderabad will have Wi-Fi facility. Telangana IT Minister K Taraka Rama Rao will formally launch the project in the evening.

To kick-off the ambitious project that aims at providing Wi-Fi facilities across the city, the Minister would make a call to the Communications and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

In the first phase, areas around Necklace Road (the road encircling Husainsagar) will have this facility. People will get free access to the Internet from BSNL for about 30 minutes.

This was preceded by a pilot project by Airtel in some areas of the Hi-Tec City region a few months ago.

A Government official said all telecom service providers will get a chance to offer similar service.

The services will be available in a radius of 10 km, allowing 1,800-2,500 people to log in to the Wi-Fi service. Internet speeds would range from 2 mbps to 20 mbps depending on the usage.
