Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reviewed the situation at the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir while chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).

This CCS meet comes a week after India launched surgical strikes on terror launch pads across the LoC.

The Prime Minister was briefed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on the present condition of the LoC and international borders. It was also attended by the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

However, a substantial portion of the discussion was on the ongoing unrest in the Kashmir valley, sources said.

Meanwhile, the clamour for showing the footage of surgical strike also grew among the opposition parties. Reports of ceasefire violation by Pakistan have, in the meantime, increased since the strikes took place.

The international community has also started to express concern over the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, which has even led to the cancellation of the SAARC Summit.

PM Modi had said last year that he will be visiting Islamabad for the SAARC Summit. But post the attacks on an army base camp in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir, India was not willing to participate and one by one all members cancelled their participation that led Pakistan to postpone the Summit.

No new dates have been announced yet.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is presently visiting India, said that the cross-border terrorism is an issue that needs to be discussed.

“Don't think war (between India and Pakistan) is an option, your PM ( Narendra Modi) has taken a lot of steps to defuse tensions,” Wickremesinghe told reporters here.

On the other hand, German Ambassador to India Martin Ney said his country stands with India and its efforts in tackling terrorism.

“There are two clear rules of international law. Every state has the legal obligation to make sure that from the territory it controls no terrorism emanates. And every state has the right to defence itself against international terrorism,” Ney said.
