The Andhra Pradesh Government has issued orders for the revision of the estimates for implementation of the Indira Sagar Polavaram multi-purpose hydel project.
The revised administrative approval for investigation, survey and preparation of the project plant and construction of spillway and works on the 960 MW hydel power unit with an outlay of Rs 7.332 crore has been approved. The project will incorporate a 960 MW hydro electric power house.
The State Department of Irrigation and Command Area Development in an order today have accorded clearance for the revised approvals for construction of spillway of about Rs 985.50 meters, connectivity from the reservoir to right main canal and connectivity from reservoir to left main canal of Polavaram project.
The new clearances include earth-cum rockfill dam across Godavari and the hydro electric power plant.
While the original administrative approval for the project was Rs 4041 crore, the revised estimate is Rs 7372.22 crore. The cost differential now works out to 82.44 per cent more than the initial proposed investment estimate.
According to the approvals received through the Government order, the spillway works would entail an outlay of Rs 2,499 crore, earth cum rock fill dam works out to Rs 2,952 crore and the hydro electric power unit Rs 1921 crore.
Shailendra Kumar Joshi, Principal Secretary to Andhra Pradesh Government, in the order issued today, has accorded the necessary sanctions to revise the cost estimates of the ambitious project.
