The Punjab Transport Department has initiated the process of fixing the speed governor (speed controlling device) in all the registered vehicles.
Disclosing this here on Monday, a spokesman of the state Transport Department said that a notification in this regard had already been issued according to which speed governors have been made mandatory for all the medium/heavy passengers and goods vehicles.
Only the speed governors of the authorised testing agency specified under rule 126 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, would be installed in the vehicles, the authority of which would be given by the state transport commissioner, Punjab.
The spokesman said that for authorising of testing agencies, the office of state transport commissioner has started the process.
Within few weeks, manufacturers and dealers would be authorised for the fixing of speed governors in the vehicles, he added.
