The annual flagship event of CMA (Coimbatore Management Association) was held at The Residency Towers here on Tuesday.

Awards were conferred on individuals and organisations, particularly those who have contributed substantially in their respective fields, to the cause of management in this region. These awards included the Best Entrepreneur Award, Best SME Award, Best Woman Entrepreneur Award, Best Manager Award and Best start-up Award.

‘Strive to excel’

Raghavan Srinivasan, Editor, BusinessLine, who was the chief guest, said, “Entrepreneurs should go in pursuit of excellence to become global leaders. And to remain on top, you will need to invest in technology and consistently create intellectual property to retain the leadership position. You should have the drive to excel, as no policy can give that drive and it has no relation to size. All that the entrepreneurs need is an ecosystem to make it happen,” he added, emphasising the need for embracing technology and investing in R&D. He told the audience to be proactive instead of waiting for the government to show the way or develop a scheme, for that may not happen.

“We are at an advantage in terms of our people, but our biggest enemy is ourselves, because we lack the confidence and we mask our diffidence,” Srinivasan said, urging the small and local businesses to collaborate. Maya Sreekumar, Assistant Vice-President and Head of Academy (India) at Cognizant Technology Solutions, who was the guest of honour, said: “We all need to unlearn and relearn, for the skill or knowledge acquired by an individual say, three years back would not propel him into the future. And to market ourself as a better person, we will need to equip unique skill sets and acquire in-depth understanding in multiple areas.”

She urged young managers to think big and make bigger change.
