A Metropolitan Magistrate court on Thursday granted bail to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury in a criminal defamation case, which was filed by an RSS worker Dhrutiman Joshi.
The defamation case was filed by Joshi, also an advocate, against the two for allegedly blaming the RSS for journalist Gouri Lankesh’s killing in Bengaluru on September 5, 2017.
The court granted bail to the two senior party leaders against a bond of ₹15,000. Former member of parliament Eknath Gaikwad stood as surety for Gandhi. The court’s process required personal presence of both politicians. They were present in the Court amid tight security and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
