Palakkad division of Southern Railways will soon start work on a second entry to Mangalore Central railway station.

Talking to the media during his visit to Mangaluru, Anand Prakash, Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad Division, said that the Railway Board has approved the development of a second entry to the Mangalore Central station, and the work on the project will begin soon.

On the other works in Mangalore Central station, Prakash said lifts are being installed at the station, and would be put into operation in a month. Escalators, which are also being planned, will be installed in another five months.

Mangalore Jn. To a query on the delay in the completion of a rail under bridge on Padil-Bajal Road near the Mangalore Junction railway station, he said the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has not given the drawings of the approach road to the Railways till now. These drawings are important for opening the rail under bridge for traffic, he said.

(The Railways had started the work on rail under bridge near Mangalore Junction in August 2014 in the place of a railway level-crossing there. The level-crossing was frequently affecting the vehicular movement on the Padil-Bajal Road.)

Prakash made it clear that the Department of Railways has completed its portion of work such as pushing the concrete boxes beneath the tracks.

He said MCC was asked to shift a power line, transformer and a water pipeline from the area. Stating that nothing has been done, he said the onset of monsoon would not allow the Railways to take up any work. Fresh works could be taken up only after the monsoon ends, he said.
