Heavy rains and hailstorms lashed Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, killing 10 people and causing extensive damage to rabi crops. Crops in over 1.50 lakh hectares have been damaged in the two States. Both the States ordered a survey of the damage caused to the farmers.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao held a review meeting on Monday to take stock of the situation. Crops in an extent of one lakh hectares were damaged. He asked the district collectors to disburse ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased. He asked the revenue officials to submit a report.
In Telangana, four persons were killed due to heavy rains that lashed in several districts yesterday. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao held a meeting of officials and directed them to give an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased.
Asking the officials to prepare a district-wise report of deaths and losses to crops, he asked them to come up with a preliminary report at the earliest.
