Reliance Footprint, Reliance Retail's footwear store, has launched its 100th store in the country in Kerala.

The footwear store was first launched in Bangalore in November 2007 and Mr Gopalakrishnan Sankar, Chief Executive, Reliance Footprint said, "It is a proud moment for us to reach the 100-store milestone within five years of operation."

Mr Sankar said Reliance found that people complained they had to visit many shoe shops to find the right shoe. "In India, we walk for a lot of things. Why should you have to walk for footwear too?"

He said the average Reliance Footprint store has around 5,000 square feet of space and a range of 1,200 items to offer. "This is like visiting 15 to 20 normal shoe shops." Apart from many international and national brands, Mr Sankar said around one-third of the footwear sold at Reliance Footprint were private labels.

The 100 stores are spread across 67 cities in 17 States. Karnataka with 14 stores and Andhra Pradesh with 13 top the list. Reliance Footprint has 37 stores in South India, but the company plans stores across the country, said Mr Sankar. "We hope to open stores in the North-East in places such as Bihar, Assam and Meghalaya over the next two to three months," he said. The company is also looking at opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir.
