The Congress on Tuesday had a laugh at Amit Shah’s expense after a video surfaced showing the BJP President, in an obvious slip-of-tongue, blaming the erstwhile BS Yeddyurappa government for corruption.

“If there is a competition for the most corrupt government ever run, the Yeddyurappa government would win the first prize,” Shah was seen saying, with Yeddyurappa, his party’s Karnataka President and chief miniserial face, sitting by his side.

The Congress had a field day with party President Rahul Gandhi tagging Amit Shah for the “gift” his party’s campaign.

“Now that the BJP IT cell has announced Karnataka elections, time for a sneak preview of our top secret campaign video! Gifted to us by the BJP President, our campaign in Karnataka is off to a fabulous start. He says Yeddyurappa ran the most corrupt government ever,” tweeted the Congress President, tongue firmly in cheek.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah made the most of it, asserting that the “Shah of Lies finally speaks the truth”. Karnataka Congress was not far behind, tweeting the Shah video with the tagline, “We concur” and that “the truth has a way of coming out”.

The BJP clearly thought silence was the better part of valour. Shah made no mention of it on his Twitter handle and party spokespersons kept mum through the day.
