After a gap of five years, former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit is coming back to the centre-stage of Delhi politics. Congress President Rahul Gandhi has appointed her as the President of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee.
She will be assisted by three working presidents, two-time MLAs Devendra Yadav and Rajesh Lilothia and former leader of the Congress Legislative Party Haroon Yusuf.
On alliance with AAP
The appointment comes days after Ajay Maken announced his resignation from the president’s post. There were reports that Maken was not happy with the moves for an electoral tie-up with the ruling AAP in the State. When asked about this, AICC in-charge of the State PC Chacko said there is no question of any discussion on alliance till now. “The Congress in Delhi is strong enough to fight on its own. We are fully prepared to face 2019 elections on our own,” he said.
