The Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD) in association with the IT Communication Technology Kerala Academy will conduct skill development programmes at various engineering colleges in the state.
ISTD has been appointed as the nodal agency for assessments for testing and certification of skills for all sectors in India.
As the majority of engineering students find it hard to get employment, ISTD is committed to creating skilled employees through effective utilisation of human resources through education and training. The objective is to provide leadership and promote study and application of professional principles, ISTD National President R Karthkeyan said.
The skill level and educational attainment of the workforce determines the productivity and the ability to adapt to the changing industrial environment. In India, good marketing skills among employees are limited, which is an impediment in getting decent employment and improvement of economic conditions, he said.
The reasons basically are that a large percentage of the population lives below the poverty line, early school drop-outs and non-availability of institutes to cater to the millions of persons who enter the market every year. The unskilled population earns lower wages and is exploited by employers.
The Ministry of Labour & Employment has come out with more stringent measures to ensure quality training and certification and, thus, provide education and training as a mode that suits their economic compulsion, he said.
The skill development programmes of ISTD recognise their skills and also provides education and training in a mode that suits their economic compulsion, he added.
