Southern Railways has extended the escort service provided by the staff of Railway Protection Force in EMU trains up to Chengalpattu in the Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu section. This was available till Tambaram.
Earlier, 96 EMU trains running during night hours were being escorted by RPF staff from Chennai Beach to Tambaram. To provide security even beyond Tambaram, up to Chengalpattu, the escorting was extended up to Chengalpattu from last month.
After this extension in escorting, crimes against passengers have come down in the section. Further, the jurisdictional RPF Inspectors have been advised to take all preventive measures against theft of passenger belongings in trains and stations in co-ordination with Government Railway Police and local police, says a SR press release.
