SPAR Hypermarkets has announced its plans to consolidate its network of stores in India and expects to grow by over 30 per cent over the 12-18 months.

After inaugurating the new store here, Rajeev Krishnan, Managing Director of SPAR Hypermarkets, said, “We came to Hyderabad in 2008 with the objective of offering Hypermarket experience to customers. The last two stores we opened were at Kukatpally and Kondapur and now, we have added one, taking the total number of stores to four. This resonates the trust and satisfaction the customers have in us.”

The chain opened its fourth store in Hyderabad, taking its chain of stores to 18 in the country. Spread over 65,000 sq.ft, the store is situated at Paradise Mall at Mallapur in the city limits.

“We are expanding our network at a fast pace and expect to see a growth of about 30 per cent over the next 12-18 months. Last year we closed with revenues of over ₹1000 crore,” he said.

“The SPAR Hypermarket has evolved to become a one-stop-shop for all consumer needs and everything we do is built around and in taking the concept forward,” he said.

The private label business contributes to about 10 per cent of the total business and efforts are on to further expand the labels.

“We believe that there is no substitute for in store experience. While a section of buyers do want to shop online, we will provide them with the option to shop online. A dedicated team is working on developing online channels,” he said.

“The nature of the stores and formats continues to evolve and this opens up new opportunities. The entire thrust is on how we can sell differently adding to the convenience by building a network of loyal consumers,” he said.

SPAR Hypermarkets, operated in India by Max Hypermarkets, , has presence in over 40 countries with over 12000 stores.
