Tamil Nadu extends lockdown in containment zones till June 30

Except for Chennai and containment zones, all companies can function with 100 per cent employee strength from June 1.

In line with the Centre’s guidelines, the Tamil Nadu government has formally extended the lockdown in containment zones till June 30.

However, there are many relaxations under ‘Unlock 1.0’ which the State has been classified into eight zones across TN.

Except in Chennai and containment zones, all companies can function with 100 per cent employee strength from June 1. In non-containment zones of Chennai, all private companies can function with 50 per cent employees.

 

From June 1, public transport (50 per cent fleet strength and 60 per cent seat occupancy in buses) will resume across the State except in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheerpuram and Chengalpattu districts - the worst affected due to Coronavirus. Tamil Nadu on Saturday saw a record high of 938 persons, including 82 from other states/country, infected with Coronavirus to take the total past 21,000 mark to 21,184.

In Chennai, which is the worst affected by the virus (total of 13,980 persons), all showrooms and shops can function with 50 per cent employees. However, shopping malls are not allowed. Similarly, hotels can function with 50 per cent employees, and can serve food on the premise to customers from June 8. However, no air condition is permitted, the release said.

Auto (only two passengers) and taxi services (driver plus three passengers) will resume. Salons and beauty parlours can function without air-condition.

Till June 30, only 50 people will be allowed to attend weddings and 20 at funerals, the release said.
