Facing severe criticism from several quarters for poor maintenance of road infrastructure, the Telangana Government has decided to set up a task force to put in place good roads in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
The road infrastructure, which was not in a great shape, was battered by heavy rains in the last two weeks, throwing traffic out of gear and making travel virtually a nightmare.
Angry citizens took to the social media, posting pictures of the craters and water-logged roads as the city was battered by incessant rains.
At a review meeting held here on Wednesday, Telangana Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao said about 350 places have been identified in different parts of the city that caused traffic jams in times of heavy rains.
The proposed Task Force would have Commissioners of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HDMA), Hyderabad Metro Water Works, and Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail as members. It will suggest ways to find permanent solutions for the road infrastructure problems.
The review meeting has taken a decision to repair the roads, a government statement said.
