Telangana Finance Minister Eatala Rajender has allocated ₹12,000 crore for the Rythu Lakshmi scheme that seeks to offer a financial help of ₹8,000 per year to each farmer.

Presenting the Budget for the financial year 2018-19 in the Assembly on Thursday, he said the amount would provide the crucial investment ahead of the two seasons. The Government will give ₹4,000 an acre for each farmer in the kharif and rabi season to take care of the expenditure on inputs. Farmers will get cheques in three phases, beginning April 19.

The Finance Minister has allocated Rs 500 crore to offer a cover of Rs 5 lakh each to farmers.

The State Government has established Rythu Samanvaya Samiti with Gutha Sukhender Reddy as it Chairman. The committee, which was registered as a corporation, will oversee the identification of the beneficiaries and distribution of the cheques.

The Opposition and farmers' organisations have criticised the government for excluding tenant farmers and those who practise shifting cultivation.
