Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday directed that the facility for ‘anywhere registration’ of land documents be stopped with immediate effect and outlined plans to thoroughly revamp the functioning of the stamps and registration department.

The Chief Minister ordered a probe by Criminal Investigation Department to go to the roots of the land transactions and book the culprits.

3 held The decision comes in the backdrop of the mega land scam involving about 796 acres of land in Miyapur in the IT hub of Hyderabad. Three persons have been arrested and remanded in the case.

Following a review meeting at his Camp Office here, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that the government lands are restored and those behind the transaction are punished.

The sub-registrar of Kukatpally Rachakonda Srinivasa Rao, PS Parthasarathi of Trinity Infra and PVS Murthy of Suvishal Power, have been arrested by the Cyberabad police. As per the police probe, they managed to get 796 acres of government land registered, with forged documents. The land is valued at more than ₹10,000 crore.

Located close to the Hitec City, these lands, which have been under title disputes and litigations, have been major focus for real estate companies.

Illegal registration The land registration done through a general power of attorney (GPA) obtained from the putative owners in January 2016 came to light when the district registrar during a regular check spotted some irregularities in the stamp duties paid and lodged a complaint.

The police is on the lookout for the main accused behind the scam, PS Prasad, who is the founder of Goldstone Group of companies in Hyderabad.
