The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has opened its regional office for the new State of Telangana here.

The regional office started functioning as separate entity in the existing premises of the apex agricultural bank with effect from April 1, 2015, with VV Satyanarayana as the Chief General Manager.

Speaking to newspersons at a media conference here on Thursday, Satyanarayana said, Nabard will focus on the development of the State. “We will take inherent potential of the Telangana State into consideration while designing new schemes and implementation of existing schemes,” he said.

Further financial assistance will be also be extended to the Mission Kakatiya, the flagship programme of Telangana government for restoration of tanks and water bodies under the Rural Infrastructure Development Finance scheme, the official said. The bank had already sanctioned ₹360 crore for the project.

Other priorities in the State include digitisation of Self Help Groups’ transactions. A pilot project would be launched in Medak in this regard, he added.

Streamlining credit

With the creation of an exclusive regional office, the agricultural credit is further likely to be streamlined. The Andhra Pradesh State Cooperative Bank Ltd has been reconstituted into two banks with effect from Thursday.

The Telangana State Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd has started functioning with 35 branches in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
