The Telangana government has lined up a slew of industrial parks, according to K T Rama Rao, Minister for Industries and Commerce. Speaking after formally launching the Annual Report of the Department of Commerce and Industries for 2017-18 here on Monday, he said the government order on Environmental Clearance (EC) for the proposed Hyderabad Pharma City is expected “very soon.’’

A panel of the Ministry of Environment had recommended grant of environmental clearance for the Rs 16,784-crore Pharma City last month. In addition, a Green MSME Park at Dandu Malkapur, the Kakatiya Textile Park in Warangal, LED Park in Sanga Reddy and a Spice Park in Nizamabad were being set up, Rao said.

"Telangana started its journey four years ago amidst many doubts and apprehensions on industries and investments. But it now stands tall," he claimed. The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Telangana increased 10.4 per cent last year and its share in national GDP had gone up by 9 basis points.

“Since its launch in June 2015, Telangana had attracted Rs 1, 23,478 crore investments under the Telangana State Industrial Project Approval and Self Certification System (TS-iPASS). Of this, 47 per cent was contributed in the last financial year,’’ he said. More than 50 per cent of this investment has been in commercial operations and direct employment for 5.27 lakhs was created.

The Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) had developed 148 core industrial parks with core infrastructure last year and allotted land of 195.25 acres to 460 industries. Genome Valley, the largest innovation and life sciences cluster in Asia, was accorded Industrial Area Local Authority to facilitate its self-management.

The government has also announced Genome Valley 2.0, giving an impetus to the overall ecosystem, he added. Later, while talking to newspersons, Rao said 19 locations were identified beyond the Outer Ring Road to relocate polluting industries. The industry has sought some time and relocation could be completed in the next five years. A decision on setting up the Bayyaram steel plant will be taken by the government and the matter is under examination.
