The Telangana Government has invited the President, Pranab Mukherjee, to launch its green initiative ‘Telanganaku Haritahaaram’ (Green necklace for Telangana) that seeks to plant 230 crore saplings in the next three years.
Chief Minister Sri K. Chandrashekhar Rao wrote a letter to the President, asking him to launch the programme at the temple town Yadadri on July 3.
“Your presence would add significance to the programme and would encourage more people to take part in the programme,” he said in the letter.
The programme is aimed at increasing the green cover, maintaining ecological balance and ensuring sustainable livelihoods.
The programme would cover both the reserve forest areas and places outside of the areas. Initially, 39.60 crore saplings have been kept ready for the programme.
