The Telangana Government is speeding up the process of setting up state public service commission to conduct Government recruitments for over 18,000 vacancies.

Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao, has directed the officials to take necessary steps for speedy formation of the commission a couple of days ago, said a senior official.

As per the AP Reorganisation Act, the existing AP Public Service Commission (APPSC) would continue to discharge recruitment function for the residuary state, while the new commission could be formed for Telangana.

Though the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has been authorised to conduct recruitment for the State Government till the formation of new commission, neither the Government nor the UPSC is keen on this option, the official said.

The Government had already identified over 18,000 vacancies to be filled after the setting up of Telangana Public Service Commission. The name of noted academician and political analyst Ghanta Chakrapani is tipped to be appointed as chairman of the commission.

For the last two years, there has been no Government recruitments in the united state in view of the bifurcation. In fact, one of the motivating factors for the students to take active part in the agitation for separate state was the expectation about securing a Government job. But, they are now in agitation mode due to delay in recruitment notifications and also row over the regularisation of contractual staff.

Students of the Osmania University (OU), the hot-bed of the agitation earlier, have been up in arms against the Government for announcing the regularisation of contractual staff and delay in new notifications.

"Formation of TPSC will solve most of the problems as recruitment notifications are expected to be released,’’ A Venkatesh, a post-graduate commence student of Osmania Univertiy, told Business Line .

Despite the ready presence of AP Public Service Commission, there has been no clarity on the recruitment aspects in Andhra Pradesh too. The Government had only announced that recruitment of about 10,000 teachers would be taken up soon.
