Students in all universities and government hostels in Telangana will be provided fine rice from next academic year with a budget of over Rs 700 crore.
This decision was taken by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, according to a release issued here on Friday. The budgetary allocations for the programme will be made in the forthcoming budget.
The Chief Minister had also directed the officials to release the pending mess dues to the students of Osmania University, Hyderabad in one go. The dues have been pending for the years 2005 to 2014 amounting to Rs 7 crore.
The officials were also directed to provide training in competitive and other academic examinations to the students belonging to SC, ST and BC categories and popularise various welfare schemes in force for minorities and others.
