Top executives of telecom companies have met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Visakhapatnam in the wake of latter’s directive to the firms to revive the networks in the cyclone-hit North Coastal districts on a war footing.
Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Mittal too attended the meeting. The meeting focussed on restoration of connectivity in the five districts that were battered by Hudhud cyclone this week.
While expressing his displeasure over their ‘indifferent’ attitude, he asked them to introduce temporary plans with lower rates. He also asked them to set up mobile charging points extensively as the power infrastructure is not restored yet to the cyclone-hit areas.
“You could have restored the services in two days after the cyclone hit the coast,” he said, criticising them for acting late.
Tata telecom executives told the Chief Minister that 50 per cent of the services have been restored in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts, while Uninor said it has restored 48 per cent of services, a Government release said.
Vodafone said it restored over 55 per cent of the 570 mobile sites. Over 80 per cent of outdoor area coverage in Visakhapatnam city has been restored.
