Companies in Tamil Nadu should plan 'futuristically' on meeting Defence demand. "We need to create more opportunity for companies here in increasing supply to the three services," said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Tamil Nadu has a number of companies supplying critical components and service parts to the Defence. They should plan for the next 50 years and collectively work with the three Services (Air Force, Army and Navy), she said at an interaction with members of the CII.

If required, companies from the state can meet experts from the three services to understand Defence needs for the next 50 years, she said.

Tamil Nadu has a great potential in the industry sector. However, it is important that there are no hurdles for industries, and measures should be taken to remove hurdles, if any. "We should plan for the next 50 years in capacity building," she said.

To a query on the possibility of replicating the Avadi cluster of Defence in other parts of Tamil Nadu, Sitharaman later told newspsersons that last evening Tamil Nadu Industry minister, MC Sampath, had in a meeting mooted the idea of creating aerospace and defence parks in Salem. "I have told officials of CII and other leading industry associations in the state to hold talks with the Tamil Nadu government on this and give a plan. The Centre will definitely help," she said.
