The Tamil Nadu government has allocated an additional ₹100 crore for drinking water projects, according to an official release.
At a review meeting on the progress of drought mitigation projects, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami assessed the progress of drinking water projects for which ₹501.70 crore had been allocated to various departments. The government sanctioned the additional amount from the State Disaster Relief Fund ahead of the peak summer season.
The government sanctioned ₹40 crore to Metrowater in addition to the ₹25 crore earlier; ₹35 crore to Municipal Administration Department adding to ₹30 crore already sanctioned; and ₹25 crore to Tamil Nadu Water Supply which doubles the funds sanctioned earlier.
The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of ₹2,247-crore input subsidy disbursement to farmers and urged the officials to expedite disbursement of crop insurance funds.
Tamil Nadu Ministers and senior officials will monitor the progress of drought relief work at the field level and take action as needed, the release said.
