Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and many other organisations related to trade and commerce have stressed the need for improvement in IT infrastructure of GSTN (goods and services tax network).

This point came for discussion at a meeting convened by the Member of Parliament from Dakshina Kannada, Nalin Kumar Kateel, to hear the grievances of tax payers post-GST implementation.

‘Cumbersome process’ Vathika Pai, president of KCCI, said that frequent change of password creates a lot of confusion and difficulties for practitioners who handle several cases. It is cumbersome to monitor frequent changes in passwords. The change of password has to be permitted only on the request of the assessee or on six months basis on fixed dates. In this regard, due intimation should be given in the system by way of alerts.

She said that the name and address of the dealer should be displayed on the computer screen while uploading the data, along with the GST number. This display will be helpful for practitioners handling large number of cases.

Gaurav Hegde, president of Kanara Small Industries Association, said the people who designed the GSTN should also have taken the feedback of small and medium entrepreneurs.

Bharagava Tantri, chairman of the Mangaluru branch of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, said many taxpayers are facing the problems with GSTN, as it is not responsive.

Referring to the frequent issue of notification and change of rates in the middle of the month, Vathika Pai said that any changes should be given effect at the beginning of the month. This will facilitate tax calculations, she said.
