Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, who had come to Chennai to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister, said the Centre will extend support and cooperate with the State to carry out its development agenda.
Addressing media persons, Naidu said with elections over, the party will work together with the State for better Centre and State relations for implementing welfare schemes.
In Tamil Nadu, though the BJP’s vote share has improved marginally, it did not make the expected progress as opposed to Kerala and West Bengal where the party gained a vote share of 14 per cent and 10.7 per cent respectively. Not enough allies and long history of Dravidian parties in the State were few of the reasons why the party was not able garner votes in Tamil Nadu, said Naidu.
“In the coming days the party will work towards strengthening our presence in these areas,” Naidu added.
