After concentrating on bringing back Indian nationals stranded in different parts of the world due to Covid-19 over the last two weeks, the government has now decided to allow certain categories of OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) cardholders to come to India.

These include minor children born to Indian nationals abroad and university students (not legally minors) with parents who are Indian citizens, according to a release circulated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday.

Couples with a permanent residence in India, where one spouse is an OCI cardholder and the other is an Indian national, will also be allowed, the release added.

OCI cardholders who wish to visit India on account of emergencies such as a death in the family are to be permitted, too.

“The travel restrictions, imposed by MHA on May 7, would not apply to any aircraft, ship, train or any other vehicle deployed for bringing back the above mentioned categories of OCI cardholders who are stranded abroad. All other terms and conditions laid down by the MHA..would continue to remain in effect,” the release added.
