Visakhapatnam is getting ready to host the International Fleet Review, a prestigious event which will give a great boost to the brand image of the city, and no effort will be spared to make the event a grand success, according to Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao.

He was speaking here on Wednesday after holding a review meeting on the arrangements to be made for the IFR.

He said the IFR was held in Mumbai in 2001 and now on the east coast it would be held from February 4 to 8. Eighty countries will participate in the event.

The President, the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister and several Union ministers will participate in the event.

Rao said a task force had been constituted to oversee the arrangements for the event at the State level and it had met thrice in Hyderabad so far. The fourth meeting was held here on Wednesday.

He said the district administration and the Indian Navy would together make arrangements for the IFR. He said sanitation in the city should be improved for the event. Traffic should be regulated properly.

Visakhapatnam District Collector N Yuvaraj said most of the works had been completed and the remaining works would be completed in a month's time. Permission had been granted for the works sought to be completed by the Navy and there was full coordination between the Navy and the district administration, he added.

Praveen Kumar, the Commissioner of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), said works had been taken up at a cost of ₹75 crore to beautify the city for the event.

Baburao Naidu, the Vice-chairman of the Visakha Urban Development Authority (VUDA), said works had been taken up at cost of ₹28 crore to improve the tourist spots in the city for the IFR.
