Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has directed release of water from Singur for the second crop covering about two lakh acres and generation of about 15 MW of power.

This follows a request by T Harish Rao and Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, State Ministers, for the release of water from Singur to Nizamsagar to irrigate two lakh acres during the rabi season and also help generate power.

The Singur reservoir has 29 TMC ft of water and the release will help irrigation activity in the districts of Nizamabad, Kamareddy and Medak, besides generating 15 MW of power. The demand for water release for the second crop has been a long pending one.

Besides Nizamsagar, the water from Singur is expected to fill up Ghanapuram anicut and facilitate cultivation of 30,000 acres and 40,000 acres under the Andol lift irrigation scheme.

The Chief Minister has instructed TS Genco CMD D Prabahakar Rao to start hydel power generation once the water is released from Singur.
