Amusement park operator, Wonderla Holidays Ltd, has inaugurated a Rs 40-crore attraction -- ‘Mission Interstellar,’ a space flying ride experience -- at its facility in Hyderabad.

Inaugurated in April 2016, Wonderla Hyderabad has thus seen investment of about Rs 300 crore, which includes Rs 40 crore for this latest project. Spread over 50 acres, the park offers 43 rides and is located near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Arun K. Chittilappilly, Managing Director, Wonderla Holidays Ltd. said, “Mission Interstellar is our latest and most advanced ride. At Wonderla it has been our continuous endeavour to give our patrons unique experiences, with delightful memories to take back.”

Developed in collaboration with leading US and European theme park design companies, the ride installation and integration was managed by the Wonderla engineering team.

Its technical features include a large 3500 sqft parabolic screen, 4K resolution laser projector, and a hydraulic lift seating system for 60 pax from Italy, to make the ride real and immersive.

The entertainment zone is housed in an 8-storey building with a 23-metre dome-shaped roof and has a 6,500 sq ft air-conditioned area with preview hall and queue area.

Guests board the ride vehicle that lifts them 40 ft up into the dome and the film is projected onto the giant dome screen so that the projected images completely fill the viewer’s field of vision. The “floating/ flying” movement of the ride vehicle is synchronised with the film, projected using a high tech laser projector, resulting in a fully immersive experience. In addition to the ride movements, environmental effects such as wind are provided to create a realistic flying experience.

The company currently owns and operates three amusement parks in Kochi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad and a resort in Bengaluru. It is in the process of setting up a park in Chennai. Referring to GST, he said the entertainment sector hopes to see it come down to a lower slab of 18 per cent from 28 per cent now.
