The UK-based Xchanging, a business processing and procurement services company, plans to hire 3,000 employees for its operations in an Indian tier-3 city.
The £600 million company is one of the first multinationals to set up its centre in a tier-3 city in India. It already runs five other such centres in either a tier-2 or -3 city in the country, sources in the company said.
At present, Xchanging has a total of 500 employees who work out of the Shimoga centre providing high-end technology and processing services to banking, financial and insurance clients across geographies.
The centre has been built at the new SEZ (special economic zone) in Shimoga built in collaboration with Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (Keonics).
Xchanging has leased six acres of land from Keonics to build the new facility. The facility is a zero energy building with its energy efficient design taking advantage of natural ventilation and lighting.
The company works closely with universities and education institutes in the region and has plans to introduce certificate programme in BPO operations and software development in collaboration with Kuvempu University.
Xchanging has roped in L&T Finance and L&T Insurance as its domestic clients. The letter of intent for the same was signed today, said Mr Nimish Soni, Executive Director and APAC Head, Xchanging.
