Moments after BS Yeddyurappa resigned, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress supremo, Mamata Banerjee called it as a “victory of regional front”.
Banerjee had been instrumental in convincing JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda to take Congress support in forming the government in Karnataka and keep BJP out.
In these last few days , Banerjee had been constantly in touch with both Gowda senior and his son.
“Democracy wins. Congratulations Karnataka. Congratulations DeveGowda Ji, Kumaraswamy Ji, Congress and others. Victory of the 'regional' front,” the West Bengal CM tweeted.
Banerjee had, for quite some time now, taking efforts to establish that a non-Congress non-BJP coalition of regional parties emerge as kingmakers in the national scenario.
She has been trying to bring on-board KCR’s TRS in Telanagana; Lalu Yadav and RJD in Bihar; stitch together an alliance between Akhilesh Yadav’s SP and Mayawati’s BSP in Uttar Pradesh and Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh.
