Young motorists in Chennai have accepted compulsory wearing of helmets with a positive attitude, according to a survey by Airloyal, a Chennai-based start-up. The company used its mobile application ‘ladooo’ to get a feedback on the rule making wearing of helmets compulsory from July 1.
The survey was taken up by 1,500 ‘ladooo’ insight users with 72 per cent of them having bought a new helmet or have started to use their existing helmet to abide by the new rule. The new law has hiked demand for helmets with 1,044 out of the total respondents stating the cost of helmets has risen significantly because of the new rule. The minimum price of a helmet has increased to ₹900 from ₹500, says a press release from Airloyal.
The police feel that a fine of ₹200-₹500 for violation is too small a price paid for a life in danger. However, the public feels that drastic measures such as seizing documents and filing a case are unnecessary.
