English news channel Headlines Today will be renamed as ‘India Today’ as TV Today group revamps its network under new brand identity.

The English news channel with a new brand identity and fresh look would beam within a week, India Today Group CEO Ashish Bagga said.

“We are launching India Today news channel in a week.

This has been in the development process from past six months although the thought process had started much earlier. We believe that the time is appropriate now with the kind of investment has gone in and the kind of quality we have built over time,” Bagga told PTI.

The company believes that time has come for the transition for not only to leverage the brand ‘India Today’ but to further the news viewing experience of the seekers, he added.

The group plans to bring all new activity under the brand name of its weekly magazine ‘India Today’ for English and ‘Aaj Tak’ for the Hindi media.

“Everything in Hindi would be centered around brand Aaj Tak and essentially in English, it would be centric to India Today,” he added.

“We believe that time has come for the transition for not only to leverage the brand India Today but to further the news viewing experience of the seekers. There is a gap which we have identified. We have addressed that in Headlines Today and in last 18 months things have improved and we have done very well,” he added.

Moreover, the media house is also leveraging its expertise in digital media sensing good opportunity in the sector.

“We are totally prepared for the digital boom in the industry. We have bulletins specially for mobile phone, social media. It’s a very big growth area for us. We are very excited for that,” said India Today Group Synergy & Creative Officer Kalli Purie.
