Indian Railways, which had started the pilot project of paperless mobile ticketing app for unreserved ticketing, has now extended it to monthly season tickets and platform tickets. This facility has been extended to Northern Railway and Central Railway in Mumbai.
“Monthly season tickets account for about 80 per cent of tickets booked in suburban segment travellers...,” said Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu here on Friday.
Additionally, the app can now be downloaded on Windows, Android and iOS platform, covering almost 95 per cent of phones in the process. The app will be slowly launched across other locations of Railways. The app uses GPS location of the user to issue tickets.
Prabhu also launched cash-cum-coin vending machines for tickets. People should not have to waste their time in queues, when they approach trains, said Prabhu.
