The Centre has taken steps to analyse the performance of Atal Incubation Centres, which incubates start-ups. This performance monitoring will happen through an online medium.

For this purpose, a platform has been launched by Atal Innovation Mission this month, an official release said.

Performance analysis

The platform will collect data related to incubation performance, which will be submitted by incubators every month. The performance analysis will be conducted once there is sizeable data from monthly reports, the release added.

At present, there are over 360 start-ups being incubated in centres established by the Atal Innovation Mission.

In addition, close to 31 incubators have been set up under Startup India Initiative by the Department of Bio-Technology (DBT) and their performance is reviewed on yearly basis by National Level Experts.

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has set up 11 Technology Business Incubators (TBI) under the Startup India action plan.

The performance of the TBIs is evaluated during periodic review by the National Expert Advisory Committee on innovation, incubation and technology entrepreneurship.

Around 2,441 schools have been selected for establishing tinkering labs under Atal Innovation Mission and ₹12 lakh each has been disbursed to 1,657 tinkering labs. Close to 15 start-up centres have been approved for building Innovation Centres at National Institutes jointly by the DST and Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Patent filing

To encourage start-ups, patent filing has been expedited for start-ups and 1,029 facilitators have been empanelled to assist start-ups in fling for patents and trademarks, the official release said.

Over 700 applications have received rebate of up to 80 per cent on patent fees and have also received legal assistance. Trademark facilitation has been extended to 1,095 start-ups as of June, 2018.

Startup India portal has been developed to provide one stop solution for all queries related to the Startup India initiative and Startup India mobile app has also been developed to provide on-the-go services and information to users.
