Chinese phone maker OnePlus has captured over 50 per cent of the Indian smartphone market, according to International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker 2017 Q2 report.

OnePlus, founded by Carl Pei and Pete Lau in Shenzen, has become the top premium smartphone brand online, with a market share of 57% in India.

In Q2 2017, the premium smartphone (₹26,000 or $400 above) segment, witnessed OnePlus to become the market leader. More than half of premium smartphones sold online during 2017 Q2 were an OnePlus, to be specific, OnePlus 3T or OnePlus 5, the report said.

As per IDC, during the period, Apple netted about 38 per cent followed by Samsung at four per cent.

IDC said that OnePlus achieved this feat with its "Digital First” strategy. OnePlus entered the Indian market in 2014 and in four years have been able to topple Samsung, which has been in the country for over two decades.

Amazon India reported that OnePlus witnessed 3X jump in growth in the first week of sales compared to last year Diwali Sale. Also, OnePlus 5 was the bestselling smartphone during the recent Amazon ‘Prime Day’, it added.

Amazon, which started its Amazon Great Indian Shopping Festival from October 4-8, has hefty offers and discounts on the OnePlus phones.
